The HP LaserJet P1005 Printer Series Is Smart Add On To Your Office

The notable HP LaserJet P1005 printer using LaserJet P1005 toner seems to have been designed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard for the purpose of delivering excellent black-and-white laser printing at a fairly good speed and with a lot of durability to go with typical HP reliability. It comes with a series of simple and intuitive controls and it can be hooked up to most any PC in a variety of ways. This makes it personal, as well as price-competitive.

As far as that print speed, most users will proclaim themselves satisfied with its 14 pages per minute. While not the speediest laser printer on the market (either by price or within segment) most users will be able to come upon typical Hewlett-Packard reliability. Additionally, pages will feed into the printer smoothly and will come out fairly rapidly. In fact, this device just looks nice and competent.

It’s obvious that the 1005 series was intended for mostly personal use on a desktop work area. It connects to a computer via USB or parallel ports, which is still around though most computer users today will prefer to use the very nice USB option rather than the slightly more bulky parallel porting option. The USB cable needs to be purchased separately, though.

This particular HP printer is fairly compact and meant for mostly personal printing use, but Hewlett-Packard has made it workable that way by hooking it into Windows Sharing. When that’s done, I’ll printer software options are then available to every user on the Sharing network. It’s most likely the case though, that the printer will just be used in a personal matter rather than through a network.

Print resolution is fairly standard when it comes to this particular HP model, coming in at a fairly nice 600 dpi using the HP toner. Resolution can be 1,200 dpi when the Hewlett-Packard image enhancement technology tool is used. As far as what’s better, it would all depend on the application the printer is being used for. For most general business types, 600 dpi ought to fill the bill quite well.

Up to 250 sheets of paper can be stored within its included auto load input tray. The output tray — meaning the tray that holds what the printer has put out — can hold about half that amount. Both trays can handle a variety of different-sized paper and other media stock. It’s no problem to print out on transparencies, business cards, envelopes and certain custom-sized paper stock, as well.

Maximum monthly duty cycle — meaning the maximum number of printed pages per month the printer can image — is a more than acceptable 7,000 pages. For the environment in which the printer is intended to operate (small office/home office or very small network), this duty cycle should be more than adequate. After 7,000 pages, minor maintenance would be required, but it is really just very minor in character.

Looked at all together, there really seems to be nothing to dislike about the HP LaserJet P1005 printer. At $167 list, there’s little to quibble about in terms of price and the fact that it can easily connect to just about any personal computer quickly and run off of a wide variety of Windows operating systems is also a plus. It combines excellent durability and printing quality at a decent-enough speed for most any small or home office.
