Lalanath de Silva, who was for many years deputy conductor, took over the position of principal conductor from 2000 to 2002. The present principal conductors are Ajit Abeysekera, Ananda Dabare, Manilal Weerakoon and Eshantha J. Peiris. Soloists who have performed with the orchestra include Gervase de Peyer (clarinet), Barry Tuckwell (horn), Richard Adeney (flute), Thomas Brandis and Leon Spierer (violin, then concertmasters of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Paul Olefsky and Rohan de Saram (cello), Rodney Slatford (double bass), Druvi de Saram, Peter Cooper, Ian Lake, Robin Zebaida, Anthony Peebles and Rohan de Silva (piano). Bayleaf $9.71 Here’s what Stone Gossard has to say about his latest release Bayleaf, in his own words: I’ve recently completed a record with ten songs. The record is called Bayleaf, which is also the name of the first song I wrote for it while I was on tour…in Australia in ’97. In that song there’s a guy who had a lot to give but ended up giving in. If only he could have held on… Bayleaf represents the idea/concept of a child who doesn’t understand why there’s a hard old leaf in his pasta sauce, and only later comes to understand how that leaf imparts a special flavor/ seasoning. Enough metaphors. I sing on 7 of the 10 songs. My friends at Epic picked one of the three that I didn’t sing on to be the first single. Go figure. This leads me to Ty Wilman. Ty believed in me when I had severe doubts about making this record. Without his support, I’m not sure I would have finished it. I know it wouldn’t be as good. He sings Unhand Me, the first single, Fend It Off and Cadillac. Ty also introduced me to Ron Weinstein (piano) Mike Stone (drums), and Guy Davis (bass), who all played important roles in the making of this record. The amazing Matt Chamberlin also played drums on Bore Me and Fits . I don’t have any plans to tour. It took me a long time to make this record. It may take a long time before I feel ‘ready’ to tour as a lead singer. I may never be ready…we’ll just have to see. |

As well as playing bass guitar, Such sang backing vocals and occasionally took the lead for part of ‘Blood on Blood’ at live shows. He is of Hungarian descent (his surname is Sz cs in Hungarian ). According to interviews with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora in an episode of Behind the Music , Such was dismissed from the band for unsatisfactory performance during live concerts . Also his quality of session recordings during the Cross Road album were a contributing factor to his dismissal from Bon Jovi.
